Yes it is possible for a species to eventually develop traits that make them genetically different and sexually incompatible with their fellows. This can happen under a variety of circumstances, be they biotic stressors, geographical separation (being the most common reason), a change in the climate or availability of food, etc. It's called Speciation. We have evidence (evidence being defined as observable, repeatable results) that support this theory. There is a reason that the idea of evolution has been referred to as the greatest idea in all of thought.
